Glasses

I need a new pair of specs. Every time I bend down to pick something up, my glasses start sliding down my nose. Don’t get me wrong I love the way my glasses look, but I think I need some eye wear that stays in place for work. Hope that new vision insurance is worth something.

Last Weekend

Sorry for the delay in postings.  I decided to take a couple weeks off from writing this blog to recharge the batteries.  My sincerest apologies to anyone who was, in any way, negatively effected by my lack of posting.  Onward to the blog!

Between work, travel, and travel for work Tammy and I have not been able to spend much time together lately.  We tried to remedy that by spending the weekend together.  Saturday we went to see our friends, Cody and Desi, and their brand new baby girl, Abby.  Abby is still in the NICU after being delivered via c-section about 2 months premature.  She is doing quite well.  She has begun breast/bottle feeding, she is almost up to 4 pounds, and soon she will be out of the incubator.  Her parents are handling the situation with great patience.  If it were me, I would be dying to get that baby home.  They are allowed to spend about an hour with her every four hours or so.  Most of this time is spent feeding and holding her while she sleeps.  She is gaining weight and looking better with each passing day.  I want to hold her but there is no way I am going to ask to take any of the limited time they have with her.

After visiting the hospital, we went over to Cody’s place and had a few friends over for a small social gathering.  I saw a few friends that used to live in Austin who were in town for the weekend.  After a few hours playing video games, drinking beers, and singing out loud, we called it a night and went home.

Sunday morning was spend in a semiconscious state due to the animals present at the home we spent Saturday night at.  As most of you know, I am allergic to smoke, dust and cats.  Cats have always been by far the worst of these allergens and Cody keeps one in his home.  Now Cody keeps an exceedingly well cleaned home but that apparently does not matter to my body.  After sleeping until 11:00 and taking a shower I felt much better and was ready to take on Sunday.  We grabbed some lunch, looked at some houses, and went for an extended bike ride through our neighborhood.

We made our first stop of our extended bike ride at the Allendale Picnic in the Park.  We could not have asked for a better day to be outside.  The event was filled with about 30 vendors who were selling everything from jewelry to pottery to information on green building.  After grabbing a few pamphlets on how to remodel your home with sustainable products we headed over to get some food.  Hangtown Grill had a booth at the park and they were giving “free” food in exchange for a charitable donation.  It was a pretty good deal and we all know that everyone there could spare a few bucks for charity. The Alt Country band was not bad and the Amy’s Ice Cream was smooth and creamy. For some reason, Amy’s seems to taste better when your standing in the park with green grass under your feet.  Makes you feel like a kid again.

After we made our way through the event we hoped back on our bikes and rode to our friend’s house about a 1/2  mile away from the park.  We watched a little bit of the UNC v. OU game while drinking a beer.  Caught up with my bud and headed back out on the bikes to pick up groceries on the ride home.  After a grueling final mile, we made it home with our groceries.  Biking your groceries home will certainly make you reevaluate your nutritional choices based on gross product weight.

Cleaning, laundry and eating pizza helped round it out with a bang.  All in all it was a pretty good weekend.  Hope I have plenty more like it.

Rough Week

Just wrapped up a week that turned out to be an overall strain. I spent all of Monday night and most of early Tuesday morning handling what Tammy has diagnosed as food poisoning. Had to call in to work. I have only called in to work 3 times. It was a bad night.

I broke my streak that night. 4.5 years since the last time I purged the contents of my stomach. Maybe its a little strange that I remember these things but I really hate to throw up. I don’t feel better after, like many people say they do.

Well, enough with the bad, bad night. Work is getting busier and every day this week my boss kept saying, “Tyler, we are about to get so busy. I don’t even know where to start.” Its good to have plenty to do, but I don’t want the quality of work to suffer and that means 50-60 hour work weeks. It will be fun.

Enough is Enough

When does a person get to a point where they decide to choose their pony and ride it to the finish?  Spurred by my father’s recent entrance into Facebook and Twitter, I began to think about all the social media sites I belong to.  Then I began to think of all the online content I am vested in.

  • MySpace
  • LinkedIn
  • WordPress
  • Blogger (2)
  • My Bank (once as high as 3 different banks)
  • Netflix
  • Austin Business Journal
  • Texas State
  • Flickr
  • 3 Email Accounts
  • 4 Ad Biz RSS Feeds
  • 6 News RSS Feeds
  • 2 Friends RSS Feeds
  • Common Sense Creativity

I used to spend about 30 minutes to 1 hour a day checking online content (before the iPhone).  Not updating profiles or adding content… just making sure everything is kosher.  I already have a hard time keeping up with these.  I don’t think I could give any other site the attention needed to successfully mediate an account.  Maybe this is a sign that I am finally starting to act my age.
